Last week I attended the launch of the new 2008 vintage of white and rose Bellet wines at the Ch\u00e2teau de Bellet. Eleven domaines were present in the tasting room of the ch\u00e2teau with views over the hills of Bellet down towards the sea. Unfortunately it was an overcast day with grey blustery clouds threatening rain, so not quite the dream picture of the Cote d’Azur.<\/p>\n
The eleven domaines were Ch\u00e2teau de Bellet<\/em>, Ch\u00e2teau de Cr\u00e9mat<\/em>, Domaine de Toasc<\/em>, Domaine de la Source<\/em>, Clos St Vincent<\/em>, Domaine Vinceline<\/em>, Domaine Augier<\/em>, C\u00f4teaux de Bellet<\/em>, Via Julia-Augusta<\/em>, Domaine St Jean<\/em> and Collet de Bovis<\/em>.<\/p>\n After tasting so much C\u00f4tes de Provence ros\u00e9 the week before, the difference with the Bellet rose’s was quite noticeable with the more pronounced red fruit and floral character of the Braquet showing through. Ch\u00e2teau de Bellet<\/em>, Clos St Vincent<\/em> and Domaine de la Source<\/em> were especially good; interestingly all three were 100% Braquet.<\/p>\n Of the whites Via Julia-Augusta<\/em>, Clos St Vincent<\/em>, Domaine de la Source<\/em>, Ch\u00e2teau de Bellet<\/em> and Ch\u00e2teau de Cr\u00e9mat<\/em> were good with crisp fresh fruit and full creamy character.<\/p>\n Of the reds, far fewer stood out. C\u00f4teaux de Bellet<\/em> 2007, Clos St Vincent<\/em> 2007, Domaine de la Source<\/em> 2006 and\u00a0Ch\u00e2teau\u00a0de Bellet<\/em> 2007 were the best.<\/p>\n The hot question on everyone’s lips is the debate over ros\u00e9 – should winemakers be allowed to mix red and white wine to make ros\u00e9?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Last week I attended the launch of the new 2008 vintage of white and rose Bellet wines at the Ch\u00e2teau de Bellet.
