The King of Spain was interested but in 1923 it was bought by a rich American the Belle Irene Bretz, a wealthy shareholder in a railway company and apparently friends with the young designer Coco Chanel. Here is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lachanelphile.com\/2012\/06\/29\/flash-back-friday-the-legend-of-the-chanel-double-c\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a> to an interesting article on the interlocking C&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>Mme Bretz used the architect Dalmas, responsible for the grand hotels Belle \u00c9poque and the Carlton in Cannes, to finish off the interior and exterior of the ch\u00e2teau.<\/p>\n<p>After the Wall Street Crash in 1929 the estate was sold again and bought by the Thom\u00e9 family who had just returned from Argentina. Pierre Thom\u00e9 became president of the Syndicat of the Vignerons of Bellet and helped form the appellation in 1941.<\/p>\n<p>After the second war the appellation was close to destruction and was close to loosing its appellation status.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_680\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-680\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/belletwine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/chateau-de-cremat-pin.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-680\" src=\"https:\/\/belletwine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/chateau-de-cremat-pin.png?w=300\" alt=\"Chateau de Cr\u00e9mat pin\" width=\"300\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"https:\/\/belletwine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/chateau-de-cremat-pin.png 305w, https:\/\/belletwine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/chateau-de-cremat-pin-300x236.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-680\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chateau de Cr\u00e9mat pin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At Ch\u00e2teau de Cr\u00e9mat, Jean Bagnis carried out alot of work in the cellar and the vineyards, restoring them to order by 1947.<\/p>\n<p>In 1957 Bagnis and his son Charles bought the property.<\/p>\n<p>In 1958 Charles replanted 8ha. In 1963 he made Cr\u00e9mat&#8217;s first white and ros\u00e9 wines.<\/p>\n<p>As well as making wine from their own vineyards, the Bagnis family were negociants \u00a0(also owning the large Proven\u00e7al brand l\u2019Estandon, which now belongs to the Union des Caves Cooperatives).\u00a0The Bagni&#8217;s bought grapes from various tiny producers around Bellet, who were often also market gardeners, concentrating on carnations but with just a few vines as a sideline.<\/p>\n<p>By 1986\u00a0there were 15ha, in the regions of Cr\u00e9mat, Saquier and Saint Saveur. 5ha of which produced white wine. Grapes from a further 23ha in all the other parcels of Bellet<i>\u00a0<\/i>and cultivated by 10 local growers, were bought but vinified separately at a neighbour&#8217;s domaine, <a href=\"https:\/\/belletwine.com\/la-tour-sarrasine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">La Tour Sarrasine<\/a> between 1974-82.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/belletwine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/cremat-with-snowy-peaks.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-683\" src=\"https:\/\/belletwine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/cremat-with-snowy-peaks.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"Cremat with snowy peaks\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a>Yapp 1988 had Ch\u00e2teau de Cremat on their list. Their notes read:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe Bagnis family are mainly responsible for the upswing in the fortunes of the appellation. Close attention is taken in the making of the wine. Bellet\u2013Simple is wine vinified by the Bagnis\u2019 from grapes supplied by their neighbours. Ch\u00e2teau de Cremat is made from their own grapes. Their Ros\u00e9 is made from Braquet and Cinsault. The red is made from Folle Noire, Cinsault and a little Grenache and the white is made from Rolle.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_245\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-245\" style=\"width: 224px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/belletwinedotcom.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/12\/picture-273.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-245 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/belletwinedotcom.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/12\/picture-273.jpg?w=224\" alt=\"Old style Cr\u00e9mat bottle\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-245\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Old style Cr\u00e9mat bottle<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In the 1980s and 1990s, the wine was bottled in squat style bottles with a gold wire net over the bottle, until, apparently, Kamerbeek bought the estate.<\/p>\n<p>The Macdonald Guide to French wines in 1988\/9 wrote:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cChateau de Cremat Red 1985 **: 6 ha, 25000 hectolitres. Aged in wood, temperature control. Good value for money (30-50FF). Chateau de Cremat White 1986 ***: 3 ha 20000 hectolitres. Fermented in temperature control tank. A good looking white wine; the nose is still closed, but is smooth, full and long.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>When the Bagni&#8217;s went bankrupt, these farmers found themselves without an outlet for their grapes.\u00a0The Bagnis family, sold the bankrupted property to a M. Pisoni in 1995.<\/p>\n<p>Pisoni&#8217;s cellarmaster produced very oaky wines that Rosemary George MW in 2003 did not regard as typical of the appellation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/belletwine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/pb241745.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-627\" src=\"https:\/\/belletwine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/pb241745.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Kamerbeek rented the chateau from 2000 and then purchased the chateau and estate in 2002-3, creating SCEA Kamerbeek.<\/p>\n<p>The estate now has 11+ha in the three climates of Cr\u00e9mat, Saint-Saveur and Saquier and Mr Kamerbeek is attempting to enlarge the estate.<\/p>\n<p>The Alps protect it from weather from the north.\u00a0300m above sea level which cools down the temperature.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The red wines are made up of Folle Noire 60%, Grenache 20% and Cinsault 20%.<\/li>\n<li>The ros\u00e9 is made up of 60% Braquet, 20% Grenache, 20% Cinsault.<\/li>\n<li>The white is made of 80% Rolle and 20% Chardonnay.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cornelis et Jarmilla Kamerbeek 442, Chemin de Cr\u00e9mat,\u00a006200 Nice T\u00e9l. +33 (0)4 92 15 12 15 email\u00a0chateau.cremat@orange.fr www.chateau-cremat.com &nbsp; In 1900 Antoine Mari, a rich olive orchard owner and wine merchant bought the family land coincidently of\u00a0li plana di Mari.
